Concept
Chances are if you want a website you have an idea of what you want it to do, and maybe even what you want it to look like. We'll talk to you about your ideas for the site, and probably suggest a few of our own. Understanding what you want is key to building a good site, and we'll use our experience in usability, information architecture and modern design techniques to make sure the concept for the site is of good lasting quality. We can deal with any site concept, from blogs and news websites through e-commerce up to advanced web applications. The final stage of the concept is to draw up a formal specification that lays out the direction for the whole site - once we're both happy with this its on to the exciting stuff!

Design
With the specification and our knowledge of your business, brand and aims we'll go to work on a few concept designs to show you before we start on the site for real. We do all our graphic design in Adobe Photoshop and can send you design files if you're also a Photoshop user, or send them as images if you just want to critique what we've come up with. If you already have a logo or colour scheme we can work with that, and we're happy to follow any design direction you choose. Once you have a design that you can call your own we'll start tu turn it into a static website using XHTML and CSS for cross-browser compatability. When this is complete we will let you view it on the web in our testing area for the first time.

Coding
Whilst you're showing the basics of your new site to friends and colleagues we move onto the coding stage to turn the image into a working website. We have a number of PHP frameworks that we can adapt to suit your needs, but if your site requires a bespoke system built from the ground up we'll make sure that's what you get - we don't hack together sites with unsuitable management systems. This is the stage at which we can integrate your site with other websites such as Facebook, Google Maps, Flickr and YouTube. Make sure to talk to us about the services we can work with. We also use JavaScript and jQuery to provide a more fun user experience, which can include slideshows, effects and easier-to-fill forms.

Testing
When the site reaches a usable level we will give you access to a version on our testing server. This lets you get a feel for the site, identify any issues or misunderstandings early on and let us know if there are any bugs that show up when you're using it. We carry out extensive testing on websites but we're making the site for you - if you don't feel that parts are easy to use or information is easy to find then the earlier we know the earlier we can fix it. As the testing draws to a close then we'll have a final consultation with you to identify any last things that need doing on the site, and even discuss any further projects that you've thought of in the mean time.
Production
This is probably the easiest stage, but its the part where all the work comes to fruition. Your site is now finished and ready to go live on the internet. If you choose to host your site with us we'll be able to have it installed and set up under your chosen domain name as soon as we've signed the site off as complete. If you want to host elsewhere we'll provide you with all the files you need to set it up on another host, or can offer to install it for you. At this time we'll also submit your site to Google so they can start indexing it, and do a few checks to make sure your site is ready to score well in search engines.
What's next?
Getting a site live on the internet is only the beginning; once your users start arriving you're sure to see business pick up and plenty more opportunities start to arise. We can help you when you want to expand your website, offer new services or refine the experience based on user feedback. If we've already built your site we can offer our consultancy service at a reduced cost, because we'll already know what you need and what you want to give to your users. Thanks for choosing 1-Web and we hope this has given you a little insight into the way we work and our dedication to our clients.
